This course is classroom instruction provided by GHSA Umpire Development Staff in an online format . The registration fee for course is $50. It is the basic, minimum instruction to be eligible to call regular season varsity level games.

We will also offer ‘Camps’, which offers live online session via Zoom and an additional 4 hours of cage / field instruction. For Camp information click HERE.

We strongly encourage any umpire looking to improve their skills to sign-up for a Camp. For only $25 more, you receive cage and field instruction from some of the best instructors in the country.

Varsity Credit Course is Live!

  • For the 2023-2024 season, the Varsity Clinics will be in a different format. The classroom Zoom session has been replaced with an online course which umpires can take at their own pace. For this year, we have to manually enroll you in the course. Once you register and pay, come back to this site the following day and you should have access. Go to your profile by clicking on your name at the top right of the home page and click on “Profile”. On your profile page, click on “Courses” under your personal information. Frequently Asked Questions

The course consists of three main sections which include some short videos, quick quizzes and some downloadable material. If taken straight through, the entire course should only take a few hours, but umpires can take the course at their own pace over several weeks.

No, to be eligible to work GHSA Post-Season and umpire must attend a Camp (not a clinic) every year.

Paying online with a credit or debit card is the easiest method, but you can also mail in a check. You will not receive the login information for the course and your registration will not be complete until the payment is received.

The online course will include presentations from our Umpire Development Staff on various topics. It will normally cover any upcoming rule or policy changes. We will take certain rule or game situations and go into detail about how to handle them.

Umpires that are brand new to umpiring, not just joining a new association, can receive one fee waiver for the online course in their first OR second season as an umpire. You can only receive this one time. If you are in your first or second year and have never umpired before, select “pay by check” on the registration, then email [email protected] to request a fee waiver. Once it has been verified that you have never umpired before, the login information for the course will be emailed to you.

While the course is not a live presentation, you will be able to submit question to the instructors through the course software. Questions will be answered online and you will also be able to see the questions and answers submitted by other umpires.

A ‘Camp’ includes an live online classroom session on Thursday night as well as field and cage instruction on Saturday by some of the best instructors in the country. A Camp will qualify an umpire to work varsity games during the regular season as well as be eligible to work post season games.

A Varsity Credit Course is an online course. It will provide basic minimal instruction and will only qualify an umpire to work varsity games during the regular season.

The course login information is send out within 24 hours of receipt of payment. It is an automated email and sometimes will end up in your spam folder. If you have paid for the course, checked your spam folder and still don’t have an email with the login information, email [email protected] and we will get you the information.

You can work through the course at your own pace, but it MUST be completed by opening day of the current season. This is the same date that the GHSA Online Rules Clinic and the GHSA Rules Exam must be completed.

To be eligible to work varsity games, an umpire must complete the course every other year. The content is different each season, so it will be different topics each time you take the course.

Your local association can tell you if you met the varsity requirement during last season. All associations have access to this information in the GHSA MIS system.
